I suppose the real difference, if any, in the end result is how the sampler uses the CC messages to create a sound. If BFD2 only supports two positions and each position is a set of velocity layers that have been sampled at the two predetermined locations on the head, then I don't see a functional difference when comparing this method to the method described above where the brain is sending different notes for positions as opposed to CC messages... but the CC messages way allows for the positional sensing to change and improve on the sampler side of things while setting MIDI notes directly from the module is far more limiting in the long term.
